After a sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass, you move from liquids to normal textures over several weeks, eat small portions with protein first, take vitamins for life, and have regular blood tests. Good nutrition protects your health, reduces hair fall, helps prevent weight regain – and prepares you for body contouring later. Your bariatric surgeon’s instructions always come first; we work alongside them.
Stage | Typical timing | What you eat |
Clear liquids | First days | Water, clear soups, dal water – sipped slowly |
Full liquids | Up to about 2 weeks | Protein shakes, thin buttermilk, strained soups |
Soft / pureed | Weeks 2-4 | Mashed dal, soft khichdi, curd, soft paneer, eggs |
Soft solids | Weeks 4-6 | Soft, well-chewed foods |
Regular textures | From about 6-8 weeks | Small balanced meals, protein first |
With a much smaller stomach, protein is eaten first at every meal so you do not fill up before getting enough. Eat slowly, chew well, and keep drinks separate from meals by about 30 minutes.
Absorption changes permanently, especially after bypass. Most people need a daily multivitamin, plus calcium, vitamin D, B12 and iron as advised, and blood tests at regular intervals. Deficiencies cause tiredness, anaemia, nerve problems and hair fall.
Sugary or very rich foods can pass too quickly into the gut, causing sweating, dizziness, cramps or diarrhoea. Avoiding sweets, sugary drinks and large meals prevents it.
Regain often comes from grazing, high-calorie drinks and slipping back to old portions. Regular meals, protein first, water between meals, and follow-up help keep the loss.
Loose skin after major weight loss is removed with body contouring surgery. Healing depends on protein, iron, B12 and vitamin D being healthy and your weight being stable for six to twelve months. We check and correct these first, working with Dr Shah.

A skin consultation takes about twenty minutes. Come without makeup. Your skin type and concern are assessed, the right peel and depth are chosen, and you are told how many sessions you are likely to need and what the whole course costs. If your skin needs preparing first, that starts before the peel does.
