Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation

Labiaplasty, a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the vaginal area for cosmetic or functional purposes, can restore self-esteem and help women feel more comfortable with their bodies. Dr. Arth Shah is a board-certified plastic surgeon highly experienced in labiaplasty and is committed to providing patients with superior results for renewed confidence.

Why Choose Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a personal choice that women seek out for a variety of reasons. Our patients come from a diverse range of backgrounds, shapes, and ages and they each decide that labiaplasty is right for them to help improve their quality of life. Some women with enlarged labia minora experience physical discomfort or embarrassment because genital tissue that hangs below the labia majora, or outer genitalia, can catch in clothing or become irritated during exercise or intimacy. This condition, known as labia minora hypertrophy, may be a condition that women experience since puberty or it can occur as a result of childbirth, aging, or weight loss.

Benefits of Labiaplasty

Women who choose labiaplasty find that it can provide a range of benefits, including:

  • Reduce large labia
  • Provide symmetry to uneven labia
  • Restore confidence after childbirth
  • Relieve discomfort during intercourse
  • Alleviate frequent irritation during everyday activities
  • Rejuvenate labia that have changed due to aging or weight loss
  • Eliminate pain caused by labia when exercising or wearing certain clothing.
How Does Labiaplasty Work?

During your labiaplasty consultation appointment, our surgeon will assess you and discuss your medical history and aesthetic goals in order to create your treatment plan.

The two most common approaches for labiaplasty are the trim technique and the wedge technique. In a trim procedure, the excess labial tissue is removed and sutured along the perimeter. A wedge procedure involves removing a triangle of tissue and then suturing the incision to reduce the size of the labia while maintaining the natural labial edge. Labiaplasty is typically performed with general anesthesia but may be performed using local anesthesia.

Additional Procedures in The Vaginal Rejuvenation Process

While labiaplasty to reduce the inner labia is the most common type of vaginal plastic surgery, there are additional procedures to address patient needs and aesthetic goals. We are also experienced in the following procedures, which may be performed in conjunction with labiaplasty:

  • Clitoral Hood Reduction Excessive folds around the clitoral hood can be reduced to provide a proportionate appearance.
  • Labia Majoraplasty Outer labia that is overly full or disproportionate in size can be surgically reduced.
  • Monsplasty upper pubic mound, that is bulging due to excessive skin or fatty tissue can be reduced.
  • VaginoplastyVaginal canals may lose muscle tone over time or due to childbirth. Vaginoplasty can reduce vaginal laxity by repairing separated vaginal muscles through surgery or laser treatment.

Labiaplasty may also be performed as part of a mommy makeover, it is a personalized treatment plan for women who seek to restore their confidence after childbirth.

Recovery from Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is typically an outpatient procedure. There may be some pain or discomfort after the surgery that can be managed with medication. We advise patients to take approximately one week off work and refrain from strenuous activity or sexual intercourse for six weeks. Minor swelling may persist for several months after the procedure.
