I use the tumescent technique for all of my liposuction procedures. The tumescent fluid acts as a numbing agent for the affected area. After the area has been numbed, the fat is extracted using a cannula. The size of the cannula has a significant impact on the surgical outcome! Small, thin cannulas produce even, smooth results.

In Tumescent Liposuction, the cannula used is critical. The cannula is the tool that the surgeon uses to extract fat. Fortunately, the cannula design has improved significantly. For example, using larger cannulas (4 and 5 mm) for the deep layers and 3mm cannulas for the superficial layers was the standard for body contouring a few years ago. I now only use cannulas with a diameter of 3 mm. Why? The end result is much more refined. There is less bruising and discomfort.
