18 Dec UNIQUE CASE OF UNILATERAL ONE SIDED GYNECOMASTIA WITH THE BEST GYNECOMASTIA SURGEON IN INDIA
What You Need to Know About Unilateral Gynecomastia or “One-Sided” Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is characterized by a male as the appearance of a female like a breast. Because of an imbalance of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone, it is attributed to the excess proliferation of breast tissue. Although it is a benign disorder that will not affect the person physically, it may psychologically have a deep negative effect. It is critical that men with gynecomastia seek care in the form of surgery for gynecomastia.
Gynecomastia usually occurs as a two-sided or “bilateral” development, but it may occur as single-sided “unilateral” or asymmetrical gynecomastia in small percentages of males (less than 5-10 percent).
Unilateral gynecomastia, like bilateral gynecomastia, is a benign disorder that in terms of diagnosis and treatment, is no different. In contrast to the symmetrical or bilateral form, unilateral gynecomastia is harder for males to deal with.
What Causes Unilateral Gynecomastia?
There is substantial variance in the clinical presentation of unilateral gynecomastia. Gynecomastia can be either large or small in size and can look very similar to a true female breast in appearance. It is more likely, for unexplained reasons, to grow on the left side of the chest. It may or may not be associated with tenderness, which, unless you are taking medicine that induces tissue inflammation, usually lasts for a short period of time. For unclear purposes, the real gynecomastia tissue itself is more usually glandular, rather than the fibrous type.
Unilateral gynecomastia can be caused by an acute chest infection. Usually, with fever and chills, this results in chest enlargement, discomfort, swelling, and redness. It is treated with antibiotic therapy or possibly an infection collection evacuation, often referred to as an incision and drainage operation. In my 30 years of practice, I have never seen this firsthand. On only one side of the lung, benign masses and cysts may also occur and are typically easy to diagnose by an experienced clinician. These are treated by removing the benign mass surgically.
